between israel and hamas. hi i'm sarah donci. they say that people shout from the rooftops when they want to announce something important. well the governor's rooftop was apparently the golden gate bridge. that's the venue he used to declare that tourism has finally bounced back across california since 2020 with visitors shelling out more cash than ever since 2023. but back here in the bay area, some local business owners told our da lin, it's a very different story for them. there's a lot that has to be done before they start seeing the turn around and the cash. >> reporter: live jazz, warm weather and happy visitors, this is music to the ears of visitors. >> we come here from london, we just landed yesterday. >> reporter: while business is

buzzing here at the pier, it's not like that everywhere. >> you can see on a sunday afternoon brunch, it's not happening. >> reporter: mac libert of pier 23 cafe says they are surviving not thriving. in fact, he says business was down about 25 to 30% in 2023 compared to 2019. >> you need people coming through the door to survive. and when they're not coming it's, it's hard to keep the doors open. >> reporter: he's not alone, many business owners say they're still struggling. >> i'm the oldest guy out here at 77. >> reporter: petty cab operator nunez says his business is down. >> we've been having to work harder for less cash. 2019 was

good, 2023, the thing that has died is the international tourism. >> reporter: that's what the business owners say. 15% of the chinese tourists have returned and traditionally he says, chinese visitors spend big money in san francisco. >> prepandemic, china was our largest overseas market. over 2.5 million would be spent. nowell capped by the governments of the u.s. and canada, air service is capped right now at 50% of prepandemic levels. so we can't get back to the normal what we would call normal baseline visitation. because you do not have the seats in the airplanes to make it happen. >> reporter: he says l.a. gets a lot more domestic visitors. experts say so cal ease strong rebound is what's driving up the entire state's tourism

spending. >> our record breaking tourism numbers, last year $150 million. >> reporter: the governor made the announcement on top of the iconic golden gate bridge. the ceo of peer 29 says they've been fortunate. their sales were flat compared to 2019. >> the convention numbers were down, we expect them to be down. until 2025 or so. >> reporter: san francisco still has a lot of work ahead especially on its imagine and reputation. >> we're really hanging our hat on that it's going to be good and tourism is going to come back. and people are going to want to go out and spend money. >> reporter: some san francisco industry experts predict the number of chinese tourists will return by the year 2026. all right let's take a look at this video. some of our

record temperatures. close call. it's going to be nudging up against the existing weather patterns up in the west coast. that's going to result in stronger winds. a wind advisory that goes into effect about this time tomorrow. continues all the way to 8:00 thursday morning. the strongest winds are going to occur wednesday morning. that's where there could be gusts up to 90 miles per hour. we just added a bunch of moisture to those fire fuels over the weekend with all that rain that came through on saturday. so that fortunately is not guilty -- is not going to be a big concern for us. we'll talk about how long the warmer weather is going to stick around in just a few minutes. tonight hamas has signaled it would abide by a possible cease-fire deal that was

brokered by egypt and qatar. but israel seems to be far from any potential agreement. still, the news that hamas had accepted a potential deal sent cheers across gaza. and over in israel, demonstrators called for its government to accept the deal to release the hostages. the potential deal include swapping of hostages. israeli prime minister benjamin netanyahu said proposal was far from meeting israel's demands and just hours after the announcement the israeli military carried out a major operation in rafah an said strikes would continue for now. over 100 propalestinian protesters in total were arrested on the ucla and uc san diego campuses today. during clashes with riot police as you

know. many campuses across the nation have been protesting similarly. back here in the bay area, we saw something that's been largely absent during most of these other protests. university administrators sitting down to meet with protesters face to face to hash out their demands. our kelsey toward was there for us. >> reporter: sitting face to face just feet apart, surrounded by students, faculty, and media. propalestinian student protesters who set up the encampment in the middle of san francisco's state campus laid out their demands to sfsu president lynne mahoney. >> we are students, we are faculty and we are staff demanding for the csu and fs state university to divest from all companies in partnership which actively participate in

the colonization and ethnic cleansing of the palestinian people. >> reporter: the students here at sf state like so many other students across the country are demanding the university not only divest from companies that do business with israel they also want the university to disclose all of its investments. and also, defend the rights of propalestinian speech on campus and declare their support for the palestinian people in gaza. >> just like mahoney praises 1958 liberation strike. we demand lynne mahoney. >> reporter: and work with them to meet some of these demands. >> and we can have two conversations one is about what transparent transparency would look like and to make it clear

down in mexico, baja is known for its topnotch surfing that is where three men one from california chose to go on their dream surf trip. but days after it started they lost contact with their loved ones leading to a massive international search that ended with their bodies found 50 feet down a well. and tonight, three suspects are in custody for their murder. as carter evans shows us investigators have a disturbing theory about why they were targeted. >> mexican police say 30-year-old american jack carter rhode and australian brothers, jake and carem robertson were shot and killed saturday after going missing. authorities said sunday that evidence points to three suspects who appear to have attacked the tourists after a carjacking attempt. their burned up truck was found on a

near by farm last week. the local prosecutor theorized the thieves likely wanted their trucks tires but said the men resisted. on sunday, their families officially identified the bodies which were found dumped into a remote 50-foot deep well. the three men were on a surfing trip near the popular coastal city of encenada but were camping in an isolated area outside of town. >> going to remote isolated locations can be great but it can work against you when there's nobody around to be able to help you in case of emergency. >> reporter: former l.a.p.d. detective says traveling internationally can be a risk. >> once we leave the soil of the good old usa, things are not always equal. so having to deal with some of these ramifications can be challenging sometimes. >> people magazine online reports that rhode who is from san diego was engaged to be married this summer. it is more than a billion

dollars over budget and running years behind schedule. need less to say there's a lot of anticipation for the star liner program. a rocket carrying two veteran astronauts was ready for take off to cape canaveral. just two hours before the mission the mission was scrubbed. it's used to maintain proper pressure inside of an oxygen tank and that's something you don't want to go wrong. no word yet on when they can try again. the goal is to be an alternative to space x for ferrying missions to the moon. the spacecraft has sent 8 missions since 2020. -z we talked about this but we're about to have a change in the weather. it's going to be summer like conditions. >> we're going to skip spring like and go to summer like

weather for thursday, friday and saturday. it's not here yet though. not speaking of too much fog. there's not going to be a lot of it tomorrow. we're going to end up in the 40s in most locations. just a tiny bit below average but we will warm up more efficiently than we did today. tomorrow we return to what's normal for this time of year. let's look back for the tuesday high, low to mid-70s inland in the east bay. concord a couple of the warmer spots. a mix of 60s and low 70s around the bay. including 71 degrees in redwood city. only upper 50s around the coast and half-moon bay. you're going to start to warm up. temperatures in the north bay reaching up into the low to mid-70s as well. tomorrow is transition day. the above average temperatures arrive on thursday and really settle in by thursday and

friday. so what is bringing the rain, shifting patterns in the atmosphere. the system is now bringing a major severe weather outbreak to the middle of the country. that continues to move away in a big hill. a tome of -- dome of air is going to switch out positions. that's going to result in gusty offshore winds but it also results in warmer temperatures. take a look at the 10 day outlook. you can see how things spike later this week with temperatures approaching 90 degrees by saturday and sunday. even though we back up a little bit over the weekend, we're still going to be running above average. so, let's talk about the winds that are going to kick in especially as we head into tomorrow night and early wednesday. the wind will be noticeable and beginning to pivot. pointing from north to south indicating that north

breeze. it gets stronger late wednesday night into late thursday morning. getting 30 to 40-mile-per-hour gusts. those will be strongest the first half of the day wednesday but beginning to back up a little bit. it is going to be a well stirred air mass and it's going to be distributing plenty of pollen. the moisture that we added, it's not going to be zero. it's going to remain limited. not something we need to be overly concerned about. the pollen count is going to be in the medium pollen count. take a look at these inland temperatures for the bay area and we're talking about highs in the upper 80s to 90 degrees saturday and sunday. still in the low 80s inland. the warm up around the bay will be noticeable but not quite as dramatic. temperatures should hit the upper 70s thursday and friday. some spots 80 degrees to finish up the workweek and more of a cooldown as the on

shore breeze does kick in saturday and sunday. it's not going to be too strong but enough to kick up temperatures to normal at the bay. you get a couple of days even along the coast near 70 degrees. the warm up we've had so far this spring have really not been that noticeable but i think that's going to change later this week. with temperatures running 10 to 12 degrees above normal. >> i don't like it, i love it. local sports legends in the line up tonight and our vern glen was there at the big moment at the hall of fame. >> and we have the new wnba franchise and what the two teams had in common tonight.
